Prince Harry and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, issued a public statement in the wake of unsettling global events. Through their charitable organization, Archewell, they shared their comforts with Afghanistan.
The heartfelt statement revolved around the current situation in Afghanistan after the Taliban’s takeover and humanitarian disaster in Haiti. Aside from that, the joint statement touched on the ongoing global health crisis due to COVID variants.
The Duke and Duchess Public Appeal
The Duke and Duchess urged people to show their support through Archewell’s charitable foundations. The royal couple touted groups such as the Global Citizen, Vax Live, and World Central Kitchen to support these global misfortunes.
Subsequently, Prince Harry and Meghan encouraged “those in positions of global influence to rapidly advance the humanitarian dialogues at gatherings such as the U.N. General Assembly and the G20 Leaders’ Summit.”
Notably, the statement concluded with information from the Archewell team. The statements concluding words detail the charitable organization’s mode of conduct. Furthermore, the press note contains a list of charities that Harry and Meghan support.
“When any person or community suffers, a piece of each of us does so with them, whether we realize it or not,” Meghan and Harry communicated. “It’s easy to find ourselves feeling powerless, but we can put our values into action — together.”
Archewell, in addition to the joint statement, added links to several mental health resources.
Prince Harry Heartbroken Over Afghanistan
Prior to the joint statement, Prince Harry published his personal message addressing military veterans. “Reach out to each other and offer support for one another,” he wrote.
The Duke composed the statement with Dominic Reid, CEO, Invictus Games, and Lord Allen of Kensington CBE, Chair, Invictus Games Foundation. Harry founded Invictus in 2014 for active injured service personals active on the field and veterans.
Harry and Meghan’s Joint Statement
Here is the entire joint statement from Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan Markle:
The world is exceptionally fragile right now.
As we all feel the many layers of pain due to the situation in Afghanistan, we are left speechless.
As we all watch the growing humanitarian disaster in Haiti, and the threat of it worsening after last weekend’s earthquake, we are left heartbroken.
And as we all witness the continuing global health crisis, exacerbated by new variants and constant misinformation, we are left scarred.
When any person or community suffers, a piece of each of us does so with them, whether we realize it or not. It’s easy to find ourselves feeling powerless, but we can put our values into action — together.
To start, we encourage you to join us in supporting a number of organizations doing critical work. We urge those in positions of global influence to rapidly advance the humanitarian dialogues at gatherings such as the U.N. General Assembly and the G20 Leaders’ Summit.
As an international community, it is the decisions we make now — to alleviate suffering among those we know and those we may never meet — that will prove our humanity.
