Netflix Postpones Harry And Meghan Documentary Until 2023
The installment was titled Queen Victoria Syndrome and revolves around a poll that ran in the UK Sunday Times. The poll argued that it is time for Queen Elizabeth to abdicate in favor of Charles.
In the drama, Charles (Dominic West) is seen privately agreeing with a passage in the Sunday Times. The passage states that ”an ageing monarch, too long on the throne whose remoteness from the modern world has led people to grow tired not just of her but of the monarchy itself.”
Charles later has a clandestine meeting with Major when he relates the story of how Edward VII was ”kept waiting in the wings” for several years due to the longevity of Queen Victoria’s rule.
According to Major, no such conversation about overthrowing the late Queen took place. He described it as ”malicious nonsense.” After coming under fire from Major and appearing on negative front-page stories, Netflix decided not to stream The Crown in November also because it follows the Harry and Meghan documentary in December.
“They’re rattled at Netflix, and they blinked first and decided to postpone the documentary,” a source told Deadline.
Netflix Comes Under Fire
The documentary series is produced by Archewell Productions in collaboration with Netflix. However, no official broadcast date was set yet.
Officials at Netflix had previously confirmed that they want to run The Crown first, followed by the docuseries. After Queen Elizabeth’s death, the Duke and Duchess might want to reconsider the content of the docuseries. So, the delay could turn out to b a blessing in disguise.
”There’s never been any documentary from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed,” Netflix said on Monday.
