It seems one of the most loved hosts Ellen DeGeneres has come under some serious fire this time regarding the allegations of mistreating her staff. According to Variety, the core stage members that consist of approximately 30 employees are furious at the top producers due to poor treatment.
The employees claimed that they were kept in the dark regarding the number of hours they have to serve on a weekly basis including their payment. These allegations coincided with BuzzFeed’s detailed article about the toxic work culture on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
There are other insiders and peers coming out of the woodwork to gripe too, suggesting that Ellen’s signature signoff, “be kind,” may not ring true off-camera.
The 62-year-old host former bodyguard referred her as cold and demeaning. “Ellen is the one person that I’ve been assigned to and I’ve been assigned to quite a few celebrities, that has never taken the time to say hi to me,” bodyguard added.
Comedian Kevin T. Porter called DeGeneres, “notoriously one of the meanest people alive” in a tweet that attracted tens of thousands of likes. However, recently on July 30, DeGeneres issued an apology to the employees and addressed that the show is undergoing an internal investigation by WarnerMedia.
Amid controversy, besides many celebrity friends, DeGeneres does have someone important in her corner, her wife Portia de Rossi. The couple got married in 2008. De Rossi took to Instagram to break her silence on the mistreatment allegations directed at her spouse.
The Arrested Development star spoke out about the workplace allegations for the first time by posting a photo to Instagram that read “I stand by Ellen” in the signature color of the show. De Rossi captioned her post, “To all our fans…. we see you. Thank you for your support.”
She added various hashtags such as #StopBotAttacks, #IStandWithEllenDeGeneres, #IStandByEllen, #IStandByEllenDeGeneres, and #BeKindToOneAnother”, which is the phrase DeGeneres use to windup her show daily. People magazine took the #StopBotAttacks into consideration for this particular post.
“My name is on the show and everything we do and I take responsibility for that. As we’ve grown exponentially, I’ve not been able to stay on top of everything and relied on others to do their jobs as they knew I’d want them done. Clearly some didn’t. That will now change and I’m committed to ensuring this does not happen again,” Ellen made a statement on July 30.
However, we hope the investigation doesn’t get influenced by fans, celebs, or any “bots”. What do you think about the allegations? Write down in the comments section below and for more such content, keep watching this space.
