After being together for eight long years, Russ and Paola Mayfield of “90 Day Fiance” fame decided to take a break from their marriage.

In an exclusive revelation to In Touch, the couple confirmed that they are seeking marriage counseling. “During this pandemic, it’s hit everyone very hard, especially couples who have had to stay indoors with each other 24/7,” Dominique Enchinton, Paola’s manager and owner of Dominion Talent House, told the outlet.

The couple decided to move to an RV (Recreational Vehicle) made things difficult for the family.

Trouble in Paradise

The couple sparked the rumors of a divorce when Paula took to Instagram on Wednesday. The fitness trainer explained why she did not want to pretend by posing for happy pictures with her husband.

One fan supported her thoughts,  “I might be wrong, but I don’t think she broke up with her husband. She meant I don’t like to pretend that I am happy every second and take 100 pictures of my husband to make you believe we are the perfect family. I know what I have and I don’t need to display him 24/7.”

She clapped back at a user who told her to “show some respect to your king.” In response, the mother of one said, “I don’t have a king.”

She put the same caption on Twitter and clarified for the reason, “Part of the reason why relationships end is that we get caught up in other things, forget to appreciate one another, and sadly, marriage isn’t a priority anymore.”

Pandemic- The Real Culprit

It seems the real reason for this ‘break’ from marriage is the pressures posed by the pandemic. “Russ has lost his job during the pandemic, so Paola was the sole breadwinner for the past year,” Dominique explained further. “With all of that, it’s definitely taken a toll on both of them being in each other’s faces, so they are going to be taking a break for a little bit.”

However, the couple has refuted all the speculations for divorce. They claimed that they are taking a break from the marriage and will resort to therapies to make amends.

“One thing we do want to address is that Paola has been getting a lot of backlash from people on her social media, and that’s something we don’t appreciate,” Dominique added. “A lot of people are saying that she was in it for the green card, but Paola has had her green card for over five years already so that’s not true.”

“They love each other very much and have nothing bad to say about one another; they respect each other,” she clarified. “A lot of couples have gone through this. There is no animosity or anything like that.”

How did the Love Story Begin?

Paola and Russ were one of the original couples featured on Season 1 in February 2014 of the hit TLC series. The love story started in her native Colombia when Russ visited the country for work. He was working as an oil industry field engineer and visited Colombia on a project.

Russ has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Oklahoma State University. Moreover, he was working with Devon Energy as a drilling engineer then. After Russ returned to the U.S, he applied for a K-1 visa for Paola. The couple got married on October 7, 2013.

Years later, the pair announced they were expanding their family in July 2018. They welcomed their son, Axel Mayfield in January 2019. This was great news for the couple as Paola had suffered a miscarriage. In fact, the couple was not even sure if Paola can carry a child.
