90 Day Fiance: The Other Way: Armando Rubio and Kenneth Niedermeier, the first male gay couple on the TLC franchise, have found another hindrance in their path to getting married.
In Sunday’s episode, Armando and Kenneth have endeavored for approval for a marriage license in Mexico.
Armando said that Kenny and he have had many discourses about their marriage for some years now as it’s something that they wanted. Marriage is a dream for the couple. Thus they decided to make it happen by going to the marriage office to apply for a license, PEOPLE reported.
When they reached the office, Armando presented the civil registry clerk with the proper documentation and they were told they needed to obtain the license. But the clerk said that they have a negative answer for Armando.
Armando checked online for clarification and found that same-sex marriages were legal but the clerk said that in this case, the law prohibited them. The clerk said that they have a constitution that permits them but they don’t have legislation that supports them to reform their code. It said that they still can’t allow same-sex marriage to go through. When Armando relayed the news to Kenneth he became emotional.
Armando said that he surfed online and it did say that gay marriage was legal in the state but he didn’t understand what the clerk said because things seem to contradict each other and it confused him.
On the other hand, Kenneth said that not even seven words were spoken and it was “denied”. He further added that it wasn’t even a discussion and said that that’s their protocol — to deny you right away.
The couple’s love story began when they met through a gay father’s support group. Kenneth is currently living in Mexico with Armando and his daughter.
