‘School Of Rock’ Actor Kevin Clark Dies At 32 In Road Accident

Actor Kevin Clark, who portrayed kid drummer Freddy Jones in “School of Rock,” died Wednesday in a road accident in Chicago. He was just 32 years old.

Clark was reportedly riding a bicycle when he got hit by a car at around 1.20 a.m. local time (2.20 a.m. ET). The actor was pronounced dead at the Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

Actor Jack Black, who worked with Clark in the 2003 musical comedy “School of Rock,” took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message.

“Devastating news,” Black wrote. “Kevin is gone. Way too soon. Beautiful soul. So many great memories. Heartbroken. Sending love to his family and the whole School of Rock community.”

Clark’s mother, Allison, told Chicago Sun-Times that her son always loved music. He was a raw talent with a heart of gold, she said Wednesday.

“He wasn’t an actor, wasn’t thinking about being an actor,” she added.

She recalled attending the audition for “School of Rock” and revealed the ad in Highland Park News: “Looking for 10- to 12-year-old kids who can play an instrument in a movie with Jack Black.”

Allison recalled how Clark was called for the “School of Rock” audition and he played “Iron Man” with guitarist Joey Gaydos Jr. She said her son knew that he got the role of Freddy Jones before she did.

“He said he got the part and I asked him how he knew. And he pointed to the area code on the phone. And, sure enough, he got the part,” she explained.

“You know, we’re all really in shock. It was just this morning,” Allison told the outlet. “He was just a 32-year-old kid. It doesn’t make sense. A lot of our jammer friends — mostly 65-plus — have lost their lives recently. So hopefully he’s up there jamming in the sky with them.”
