Kataluna Enriquez Becomes First-Ever Transgender Woman To Be Crowned Miss Nevada USA

Miss Nevada USA has crowned the first-ever transgender woman in pageant history in what can be described as a monumental step for the LGBTQIA community.

Kataluna Enriquez, 27, surpassed 21 other contestants to take home the title of Miss Nevada USA on Sunday. The event was held in South Point Hotel Casino & Spa in Las Vegas. Enriquez will be the first openly transgender woman to compete for the Miss USA title, per Fox News.

“Congratulations to our new Miss Nevada USA @mskataluna History made!” Miss Nevada USA wrote on their Instagram page. the post had a photo of Enriquez in a shimmering sequin rainbow dress, donning her new crown and sash.

On Monday, Enriquez celebrated the accomplishment by sharing a post on Instagram. “Huge thank you to everyone who supported me from day one. My community, you are always in my heart. My win is our win. We just made history. Happy pride,” she wrote alongside several rainbow hearts.

She also posted a photo before winning the crown and revealed that she had made the rainbow gown herself through her clothing line, KatalunaKouture.

Enriquez is a fashion designer and a healthcare admin, according to her short bio on Miss Silver State USA’s Instagram.

“At a young age, Kataluna fought multiple challenges in her life,” the page reads. “Now she uses her life experiences and shares it in her platform #BEVISIBLE, a campaign to combat hate through vulnerability.”

“As a survivor of physical and sexual abuse and a proud Transwoman of color, she aims to break barriers and represent those who aren’t always represented and continues to support numerous non-profit organizations and LGBTQ+ youth,” the post added.
