Golden Globe Awards: Sacha Baron Cohen Takes A Dig At HFPA And Rudy Giuliani

HIGHLIGHT:

  • Sacha Baron Cohen called out Golden Globes for being “all-white” in his speech
  • The comedian thanked Rudy Giuliani and referred to him as a “co-star”
  • He made a joke about Trump “contesting the result”

Golden Globe Awards: Sacha Baron Cohen threw shade at Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) when he delivered his acceptance speech on behalf of “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,” which won a Golden Globe for Best Comedy or Musical.

“Thank you to the all-white Hollywood Foreign Press,” the 49-year-old comedian began his speech. He also did not forget to thank former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, whom he addressed as a “co-star.”

Cohen noted that the film could not have been possible without Giuliani, who was the attorney of former President Donald Trump, The Hill reported.

“A fresh new talent who came from nowhere and turned out to be a comedy genius. I’m talking about Rudy Giuliani,” he added. “Who can get more laughs out of one unzipping? Incredible! Rudy went on to star in a string of comedy films — hits like Four Seasons Landscaping, Hair Dye of the Day, and the courtroom drama, The Very Public Fart.”

During the acceptance speech, Isla Fisher, Cohen’s wife, sat next to him and kept giggling occasionally at his funny remarks.

“But seriously, the revelation, the sensation was Maria Bakalova. She’s incredible,” he added.

Cohen went on to thank his crew, who were brave enough to work during the pandemic.

“Because we all believed so deeply in releasing this movie before the election to show the danger of lies, hate and conspiracies and the power of truth, empathy and democracy,” Cohen said.

Cohen also won Best Actor in a Motion Picture at the Golden Globes and shared some more political jokes during his acceptance speech for the award.

“Donald Trump is contesting the result. He claimed a lot of dead people voted, which is a very rude thing to say about the HFPA,” he noted. “Thanks again to everyone else the brilliant make-up team, to Aaron knight of the incredible editors.”

“The Dictator” star once again thanked the team working on the field with him including his bodyguards, who protected him. Cohen also thanked other nominees including James Corden, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Dev Patel, and Andy Samberg, and said “I love you” to conclude his speech.
