The documentary on Netflix of the advocate who was sexually abused and assaulted at the age of 14 in Missouri, has committed suicide. As per her co-worker and her mother, Daisy Coleman’s mother Melinda Coleman announced on Facebook her daughter’s death at the age of 23.
“She was my best friend and amazing daughter. I think she had to make it seem like I could live without her. I can’t. I wish I could have taken the pain from her! She never recovered from what those boys did to her and it’s just not fair. My baby girl is gone,” Melinda Coleman said.
The 23-year-old was found dead in Denver by police when her mother asked them to check. Shael Norris, Daisy Coleman co-founder and SafeBAE executive director said to help the sexually assaulted young victim. Norris said she got aware of this terrible news from Coleman’s brother.
She was documented in 2016 by Netflix in Audrie and Daisy. The documentary follows her family with her dealing with the hostile Maryville community and her assault with the allegations. She had already mentioned in an online comment that she tried killing herself a minimum twice before.
Audrie Pott, a 15-year-old girl is also documented, who was assaulted in September 2012 by three boys in Sarasota, California, and a day after, she committed suicide. The documentary is derived by SafeBAE, Norris said “An irreplaceable loss. She was really, really good at what she did” Norris said this because she understood the problems teenagers face, who are been assaulted.
“It’s a huge loss for the culture in general because I think it was her resilience that has inspired so many other survivors to get help and speak out,” Norris added. Matthew Barnett picked up Daisy and her 13-year old friend, who sneaked from Daisy’s house om Jan 8, 2012. Matthew Barnett was 17 and took them to Barnett’s house for a party with a few other boys.
Investigator was told by Daisy that before been raped and other boy recording this in his phone, she was given some clear liquid. Officials made sure the video no longer exists. She was left by the boys on the porch for hours freezing till she was found. Barnett said, they had sex but in consensual.
The country prompted rallies and particularly, outraged after, Maryville’s reaction was negative to Colemans in a report of Kansas City Star. The case was taken by across the country advocate of sexual assault victims.
In January 2014, Barnett was pleaded guilty in misdemeanor and was on probation for two years with suspended jail for four months. This sentence came for Barnett after the country of Nodaway. Then prosecutor Jackson and Robert Rice Prosecutor Jean Peters-Baker both determined that there was no enough evidence to put rape charges.
The case was reopened after Colemans and Rice, other criticized from dismissing charges on Barnett. The political pressure made Rice and Melinda drop all the charges, Grandfather of Barnett was representative in four-term in the state of Missouri and topper from 32 years. Colemans stopped cooperating in the investigation, was said by Rice.
