Indian cartoonist, illustrator and humorist, R. K. Laxman died on Monday evening in a Pune hospital. He was 94. The veteran cartoonist came around 7pm from a private hospital in Pune, where he was hospitalized on Jan. 17 and passed away on Jan. 26.
 
Laxman, brother of late novelist RK Narayan is best known for his creation, “The Common Man,” for his daily cartoon strip “You Said It” in TOI, which started in 1951. Laxman, youngest of six sons was born in Mysore to a headmaster. His late brother, RK Narayan is survived by his wife, Kamala, son Srinivas who’s a retired journalist and Usha, his daughter-in-law.

The ace humorist had other underlying medical conditions such as diabetes and hypertension and had suffered a heart attack just a few years back, accordin to medical director of Deenanath Mageshkar hospital surgeon, Dhananjay Kelkar.
