Tammy Slaton from 1000-Lb. Sisters was able to survive a medically-induced coma, despite her lungs giving up.
Following a serious health scare that landed her in the hospital, Tammy Slaton is not only still alive but is on the road to improvement.
The season finale of 1000-Lb. Sisters saw Slaton, 35, being rushed to the hospital in an ambulance after she had “taken a turn for the worse.” This piece of information comes from her brother, Chris.
Just one day before, Tammy had arrived at her weight loss rehab facility, which is located in Ohio.. This was quite an emotional decision for Tammy, who has been struggling with depression, vaping, and drinking.
Chris explained that after he and his wife, Brittany dropped her at the hospital, they received a call that “she had quit breathing,” People reported.
Tammy Is Rushed To The Hospital
“They’re just telling us that her lungs have given up, and like her body is shutting down,” their sister Amanda added.
“So at this point, you know, we’re facing making funeral arrangements for my little sister. I’m just sitting here thinking, Oh my god,” she said.
“She waited too long. And now that she has the courage to step out and get the help that she needs, now this,” Amanda recalled.
Doctors had no choice but to put her on a ventilator. Aside from that, they put her in a medically induced coma.
“They didn’t know if she was going to make it through the night. Or make it through the next hour,” Chris said.
“And we stayed four days or so up there.” She added, “and then the last day we was there, she woke up. And she kept telling us she loved us and wanted to go home.”
Tammy Wakes Up From The Medically-Induced Coma
After she woke up, doctors carried out a surgical procedure to make a hole in her throat and inserted a breathing tube for emergency breathing support. This process is called a tracheotomy.
Much to their relief, Tammy was able to return to the rehab after spending three weeks at the hospital. “I’m happy, I’m relieved, I’m still sad. I’m just grateful,” Amanda said.
She added that, “I’m just like, good looking out up there, you know. Thanks. We prayed for a miracle and God gave us one.”
“She’s okay. She’s still alive. She has her life,” their other sister, Amy said.
Tammy is currently doing well with her weight loss in rehab. According to Chris, she lost 115 lbs in just 30 days there.
“I’m overjoyed that’s she’s ready to get on this train and start rolling down the tracks,” he said.
Not too long ago, Tammy had decided she was “fed up with being sick all the time” from partying and drinking and wanted to go back to rehab.
“I’m not doing this for anybody but myself,” she said. “I’ve decided to put myself first. Take care of Tammy.” Watch this space for the latest 1000-Lb. Sisters news.
